Update - November 26, 2017
We were scheduled to be induced on Friday, November 24th at 5am and kept getting pushed back and told to call every three hours to see what they had available. We were told by multiple nurses when we called that day that we would likely get called in the evening/night of the 24th but we woke up on the 25th to no missed calls. We were both pretty discouraged and decided to go to our nephew Owen’s 4th birthday party. As soon as I finished my makeup they called and told us to come in. I hopped in the truck and Skyler loaded the boys in the car and took off.
I came straight to the hospital, went in and filled out our registration forms. Skyler took the boys to his parents house and had his dad drop him by the hospital on his way to Owen’s party with the boys. The timing really could not have worked out any better. Once I was checked into my room they started me on my pitocin IV drip and Dr Beck came in and broke my water. From then, we were all convinced my labor would go quickly.
It didn’t go as quickly as most of us would have liked. I imagined I’d be having him around 6pm and that definitely didn’t happen haha hours go by and we ended up having to use the vacuum with the immediate need for a c-section if the vacuum didn’t work. Praise the heavens it did. I was able to hold Reed once he was born for about 2 minutes and I kissed that little face so many times I can’t even count. Immediately following that, the took him to the NICU where they did his PGE IV in his umbilical cord.
Air Evac came and ground transported him from Banner Gateway to Phoenix Children’s Hospital around 11:30pm/midnight. Skyler followed behind the ambulance in the truck so he could get him checked in and squared away before he came back to Banner Gateway to be with me. He was gone until about 2am and we tried to get some sleep. Constantly checking the PCH live video feed from Reed’s bed.
He got his echocardiogram this morning and the cardiologist will meet with the other doctors and surgeons to discuss his treatment and how quickly they will start it. From this point, we’ve been told that what we have been thinking this whole time will likely end up his treatment. Fingers crossed.
We will update you as soon as we get more information when Skyler visits PCH in the morning. I will likely be released tomorrow afternoon so I can go home and get some rest before Reed starts his surgery schedule.
Welcome to the world, baby boy.
